Do you carry flower and vegetable seeds?

Yes, we carry seeds from Colorado-based companies such as Lake Valley Seed, Botanical Interests, Beauty Beyond Belief, Pueblo Seed Co. and Arkansas Valley Seed.

Do you carry grass seed?

Yes, we carry several specialized blends for lawns and open-space areas. Whether you want a lush lawn, a low-water grassy area, or a native prairie, our staff members can help you choose the right seed for your application.

Do you carry houseplants?

Yes! We have a large selection of houseplants available year-round! We have one room dedicated to tropicals and another room dedicated to cacti and succulents. We also carry potting mixes, fertilizers, and products to help control diseases and insects.

Do you carry pots for plants?

Yes, we have a large selection of terracotta and ceramic pottery as well as plastic pots. We have everything from tiny little pots to huge ones. Most of our pottery is in the store, but we do keep some of our largest pots down in the nursery. Ask any staff member for help and they will be happy to assist you.

Do you sell bulk mulches and soils?

No, currently we only sell bagged products. There are several other retailers in Colorado Springs that sell bulk products.

Do your hours change?

Yes, our hours change seasonally.

We are open seven days a week in the spring and summer and between Thanksgiving and Christmas when we sell Christmas trees.

In the fall and winter, we reduce our hours and close on Sundays.

Check our website or call the store for the most up-to-date information about our hours.

Is there a difference between your store and your nursery area?

Both the store and the nursery are all one business. You can shop both upstairs in the store and downstairs in the nursery and checkout at any cash register in either space. To get between the two areas, use either the ramp by the parking lot or use the staircase on the side of the store.

In the store, we sell houseplants, seeds, tools, décor, soils, mulches, fertilizers, control products, fountains, and other gardening essentials. We also sell annuals, vegetable starts, and herbs in the spring and summer. The store is open year-round.

From the nursery area, we sell perennials, trees, and shrubs. We close the nursery in the fall and winter.

What are nursery container sizes? (ex. #1, #2, #3, #5…)

Have you ever looked at a plant tag and wondered what the numbers mean? For example, Common Lilac #2 or Bur Oak #10?

Those numbers refer to the size of the container the plant is in, and therefore, the size of the plant itself. When shopping at Rick’s and other nurseries, you’ll notice that nursery plants are sold in containers labeled #1, #2, #3, #5, etc.

It would be so convenient if a #5 pot was equal to 5 gallons, but unfortunately that’s not the case. The companies who manufacture nursery containers have a lot of variation in their products.

Fortunately, there is some standardization with nursery pots, thanks to the ANSI American Nursery Stock Standard. We have posted the chart of container sizes along with more details here:
